Sayulita Honor Student Shows the Power of Dreaming Big at Colegio Costa Verde School Scholarship Fundraiser
21 FEB 2023
Just five years ago, Mateo Ferrara—a friendly teenager with wide eyes, curly hair and an easy smile— was barely able to string together a complete sentence in any language other than his native Spanish.
The young scholarship student from a small community near Sayulita on the Riviera Nayarit was chosen from among all of his classmates to deliver the acceptance speech at the recent scholarship fundraiser for Colegio Costa Verde International School.
That evening, Mateo demonstrated that there are dreams that come true, as well as the possibilities that come with a quality education, in front of more than 250 attendees at the “An Evening of Dreams” event held at Don Pedro’s Beachfront restaurant.
Speaking fluently and with impeccable pronunciation, his moving speech was delivered entirely in English. Applause and congratulations followed quickly—even some tears of joy and big abrazos from a very proud mother.
For 14 years, the foreign parents of Costa Verde International School have supported Mexican children and youth of limited means throughout their education with scholarships of up to $5.5K USD through their annual scholarship fundraiser.
This year’s event was no exception. The Burning Man-themed “An Evening of Dreams” raised over $50K USD. This will ensure that an additional ten school children will be able to expand their educational horizons and embark on the pursuit of their dreams.
Today, Mateo’s future is looking bright. With a solid bilingual background, a loving family, and a caring, supportive and generous community like Sayulita, Mateo will continue to study at one of the five prestigious high schools in Puerto Vallarta that he applied to.
At Caivamá - Sayulita Living by Stately Developments, we are proud to help ensure that, like Mateo, more deserving young students in the Banderas Bay area will receive the educational opportunities they need to change their lives for better.
